BICF Organizing Committee to Visit Melbourne International Comedy Festival

Mayor of Busan Byung-soo Suh, CEO of BICF Jin-bok Lee, festival director Jun-ho Kim, and organizing members of the BICF visited the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) in Australia from March 28 to April 4, 2017.

The MICF is known as one of the largest comedy festivals in the world along with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and the Just For Laughs in Montreal, Canada.

The BICF has maintained close relations with the MICF since the MOU signing in August 2016. During the visit, talks were held between the BICF team and executive director of the MICF Damien Hodgkinson. The success story and expertise of the MICF was drawn upon through the talks.

In addition, in an attempt to encourage Korean comedians to perform overseas, the BICF requested the MICF to allow one Korean performing team to take part in the MICF annually. The MICF responded positively to this request and committed to giving continued advice about developing networks and improving festival programs.

Following last year’s visit, MICF committee members, including Mr. Hodgkinson, are going to attend the opening ceremony of the 5th BICF. Close ties between the BICF and the MICF are expected to be maintained in the future.
